Frazetta Catalogs Almost Gone!!

If you want a catalog, you better order rather quickly. They are close to selling out. Go to the PROFILES IN HISTORY web site to order.

I just got my advance copy. The book reflects all the expectations I had for it. It is a stunning presentation, engaging, and immersive. This is as close as one can get to actually approximate seeing the original art. This catalog will instantly become a collector's item. I cannot wait for Frazetta fans and connoisseurs to get this volume in their hands. It is worth every penny.

What an incredible labor of love this represents and the very finest tribute to the legacy of Frank Frazetta!!

  1. Hey DocDave,
What gives with the censored illustration on page 144? I mean compared to others in the catalog that weren't 'emasculated'? More hoohah from your auction partner, I presume? These kinds of things stand out, and in a catalogue of material for sale, and at what will no doubt be high prices, shouldn't the potential buyer get all the facts, so to speak? I've certainly learned some things in this endeavor of yours, but I'm not sure it's all useful knowledge......good luck with the sale!

  2. I guess they wanted to give an example of how ridiculous censored drawings look. Such things are absurd.

    1. I'm going to have to assume you are being a tad sarcastic and that your partners have some sort of deeper issue they either want to ignore or are too far gone to attempt to work out! You sure we're not somehow back in 1955?

  3. Censorship issues aside. I got mine today and am very happy. The production quality is top-notch as are your observations and anecdotes. That is an incredible collection. It really reflects the "best of the best" as far as Frazetta's black and white work and there's some stunning color work in there also. This book is a true collector's item and will sit proudly on my shelf. Thank you David.

  5. Dear Doc Dave, Your collection catalog has just arrived, and it has to be one of the best books produced on the Frazetta and his art. What makes it special is personal level of your collecting through the years. You collected wonderful works from Frank's whole life.
My only issue is you didn't include the photograph of Conan of Aquilonia (teaser on the blog below), I think a lot of fans would have enjoyed seeing that. Sadly if that is sold off no one will really have an opportunity to see the full painting (even in Black and White). Maybe a print could be made of it? Again a Truely brilliant book Dave. What will you do with all the new empty space and wall real estate? Thank you! Mike Keropian http://www.keropiansculpture.com

  6. Thank you for the heartfelt comments. As for Aquilonia I plan to do a book of Frazetta photos in the future and that will be in it. Plus many other photos of early versions of Frank's art. It will be a tasty volume!

  8. I received my catalog this week and it is wonderful! Congratulations and thanks to you and your partners for such a fine effort. Your comments on the pieces are enriching to the entire experience of being a Frazetta fan.
I have such a strong attachment to the pieces published in that first Frazetta Ballantine boo: When I look at that drawing of the girl dipping her toe in the water, with her arms behind her back - man, if I could have only 1 piece by Frazetta, that would be the one. It encompasses everything about his sensibility. What a line!! No academia. Just energy.
Good luck on the auction. You'll be making a lot of collector's dreams come true.

  10. Dave, realized I lost your email-but wanted to say hi and note how much I love that Gustave Baumann piece in the catalog. My dad liked his work and not only do I have a great lithograph (Salt Creek) by him, my father also had one of his original carved woodblocks that he used for a different print. Of course the Frazetta stuff is what brought me to the party, but it was super cool to see that Baumann in there-its a beauty! Benno

  11. Thanks Benno. It is the best Baumann I ever owned. Got it in Santa Fe. I love woodblock prints!
