Frazetta Random Brilliance #3

Over the years Frank Frazetta has drawn literally scores of caveman sketches. This is easily one of his best. First off, there is the felt presence of weight and the pull of gravity in the piece. The girl is limp; the caveman is weary and hunched over his arduous task of pulling the girl. The caveman seems to be lost in thought. A fascinating design and scenario is presented to the eye and mind. The imagination is immediately addressed. What happened? Where is he taking her? What is he thinking about? Is this a rescue or simply an abduction? Unlike most of Frank’s sketches, this one is built around subtleties. And, of course, the piece is beautifully drawn.
